Tour Overview
The southern parks provide a wide range of experiences, including savannah, wetlands, walking safaris, and river excursions.
The majority of people who return to Tanzania for the second time visit the south. This nine-day southern circuit itinerary includes parks and reserves that can be explored beginning in Dar es Salaam. Mikumi, a small park two hours to the west along the road that meanders down to Iringa and Mbeya, is located two hours to the north of Dar.
The Selous Game Reserve, located south of Mikumi, offers excellent river excursions on the Rufiji River as well as walking safaris. While Ruaha National Park, just west of Iringa, is the southern circuit’s crown jewel, Udzungwa Mountains National Park is all about forests, waterfalls, and strange endemics.
